DMA Launches Food Distribution in Semena Constituency to Combat Malnutrition
The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has commenced a vital food distribution initiative in the Semena Constituency, a region renowned for its high malnutrition rates. The distribution, which began on November 12, is set to provide relief to 2,250 households in the area.
In an interview with the Agency, the District Disaster Manager, Ms. Nthomeng Matete, explained that the food distribution will include essential staples such as beans, wheat, and maize. These supplies are aimed at addressing immediate food insecurity and providing nutrition to vulnerable families.
Ms. Matete further elaborated on the decision to prioritize Semena, citing its status as one of the constituencies with the highest rates of malnutrition, particularly among children, in the district. She emphasized that the DMA had carefully selected the most vulnerable areas for food assistance, ensuring that resources are directed to where they are needed most.
The initiative comes as part of the DMA’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of food shortages and improve the nutritional health of communities facing significant challenges. The food distribution is expected to make a positive impact on the well-being of residents in Semena, helping to alleviate some of the pressures faced by families dealing with food insecurity.
