16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Celebrated at Bolula Primary School
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign was recently celebrated at Bolula Primary School in Ha-Mohlakoana. The event, organized by the Mokotjomela Area Programme of World Vision Lesotho, aimed to raise awareness and sensitize the local community about the critical issues of child protection and GBV, under the theme ‘Unite to End Violence Against Women and Children.’
The event drew attention to the need for a collective effort to combat violence, particularly against vulnerable women and children in the community. Attendees included local leaders, educators, and residents, all coming together to show their support for the campaign and to engage in discussions about the harmful effects of GBV and child abuse.
Ms. Ts’ooana Letela, the Alternative Care Coordinator from the Quthing SOS Children’s Village, spoke on behalf of the District Child Protection Team (DCPT). In her address, Ms. Letela appealed to the community to join forces in the fight against all forms of abuse. “We must work hand in hand to eliminate the violence that women and children face. It is a collective responsibility to protect our children and empower our women,” she urged, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling the widespread issue.
The event also served as an opportunity for educational outreach, where community members were provided with resources and information on how to protect themselves and report incidents of abuse. World Vision Lesotho’s involvement highlighted the organization’s commitment to creating safer, more supportive environments for children and families in Lesotho.
As the 16 Days of Activism continues to be recognized globally, events like the one at Bolula Primary School play a crucial role in raising awareness and fostering a culture of protection, equality, and justice. The ongoing efforts to fight GBV in Lesotho are vital in ensuring a future where women and children are free from violence and abuse.
