Lesotho’s Finance Minister Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane Participates in Global Roundtable on Leveraging Private Business and Finance in Spain

Lesotho’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane, is representing the Kingdom on the global stage this week as she takes part in a high-level roundtable discussion at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (#FFD4) in Sevilla, Spain.

The roundtable, focusing on the theme “Leveraging Private Business and Finance,” brings together finance ministers, development experts, international financial institutions, and private sector leaders from around the world. The goal is to explore innovative ways of mobilizing private capital and business partnerships to accelerate sustainable development and economic growth, particularly in developing nations.

Dr. Matlanyane’s participation signals Lesotho’s strong commitment to engaging with international partners to unlock new sources of development finance. Speaking during the session, she highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between governments, the private sector, and development finance institutions to address economic challenges faced by countries like Lesotho.

She emphasized that private sector investment is key to creating jobs, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting entrepreneurship. “For Lesotho, attracting private capital is not just an economic priority, it’s a pathway towards achieving inclusive growth, reducing poverty, and building resilience in the face of global financial shocks,” Dr. Matlanyane said.

The #FFD4 Conference is a United Nations-led initiative aimed at reviewing progress on financing sustainable development and finding practical solutions to close global financing gaps. By participating in these discussions, Lesotho hopes to position itself as a promising investment destination in Southern Africa, with a clear focus on economic reforms and private sector engagement.

Dr. Matlanyane’s engagement at the conference is also expected to open doors for new partnerships with global investors, impact funds, and financial development organizations that could play a vital role in supporting Lesotho’s National Strategic Development Plan.
