Queen ‘Masenate Urges Young Girls to Embrace God and Education for a Brighter Future

Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Bereng Seeiso has called on young girls and women to invite God into their lives and plans, stating that faith can be a guiding force in their journey to success. She made this appeal during the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, held at Bethel High School under the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”

In her address, Her Majesty acknowledged the many challenges faced by girls, such as dropping out of school due to unplanned pregnancies and early childhood marriages. She emphasized that she understands these struggles but encouraged girls to persevere and pursue their education as a means to overcome these obstacles.

“Education is the greatest weapon in delaying child marriage,” Her Majesty stated, urging both boys and girls to stay in school and focus on their studies. She emphasized that they are the future leaders of the country and that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and early marriage.

Minister of Education and Training, Honourable Ntoi Rapapa, also spoke at the event, highlighting poverty as another significant factor contributing to early marriages. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all children attend school, in line with the national education policy. However, he expressed concern over statistics showing that 48% of girls drop out of school, facing many of the challenges mentioned by Her Majesty.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of education in shaping the future of young girls and women, with Her Majesty and the Minister both urging continued efforts to keep children in school and provide them with opportunities for a better life.
