Local Roller Mill Operator Expresses Gratitude for Government Training Initiative
Thabiso Mosae, a villager from Ha ‘Mako in Mpharane, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the government for its initiative to provide training for local Roller Mill operators. In a recent interview with the Agency, Mr. Mosae shared his enthusiasm for the ongoing visits conducted by the Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO), which aims to assess the condition of Roller Mills in the district and the quality of maize produced by each mill.
Mr. Mosae highlighted the significance of the training, noting the need for mill operators to acquire essential skills to enhance their milling processes. He emphasized that understanding the correct usage of Roller Mills is crucial for minimizing the loss of nutrients during milling, particularly in maize meal production. Many operators, he noted, may not be aware of the best practices that can preserve the nutritional value of maize, a staple food in the region.
During the FNCO’s visits, it became evident that a considerable amount of nutrients is lost during the milling process, which can impact the health and well-being of the community. Mr. Mosae expressed hope that the upcoming training sessions would equip him and his fellow operators with the knowledge needed to optimize milling techniques, ultimately benefiting the nutritional quality of the maize meal provided to local households.
He stated, “We are eager to learn how to operate the mills more effectively, ensuring that we retain as much nutrition as possible in our products. This training will empower us to serve our community better.”
The FNCO’s initiative not only aims to improve the quality of maize meal but also seeks to promote food security and nutrition within the district. By investing in training for local mill operators, the government is taking proactive steps to support agricultural development and enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.
Mr. Mosae’s gratitude reflects the broader hopes of local mill operators who seek to improve their practices and contribute positively to their communities. The collaboration between the FNCO and mill operators signals a commitment to elevating food quality and promoting better health outcomes through enhanced nutritional awareness.
