Econet Telecom Lesotho Assures Customers of Fund Safety Amid Digital Transition

Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has recently reassured its customers that their finances remain secure despite concerns during the company’s transition from an analogue to a digital system. The assurance comes amidst a significant technological upgrade aimed at bolstering the Ecocash platform.

At a press conference in Maseru on Thursday, Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Malefetsane Tlelima, addressed the public, outlining the reasons and benefits behind the system migration. He highlighted that the main goal of the shift to a digital system is to enhance the platform’s security features. These enhancements are crucial in safeguarding customer funds against potential cyberattacks, as digital threats continue to evolve.

Mr. Tlelima candidly acknowledged the challenges that arose during the transition. Over 10,000 customers experienced unauthorized deductions from their Ecocash accounts during the migration phase, raising concerns among the public. He assured the community that ETL has fully refunded all affected funds and emphasized that no customer has lost any money as a result of the system upgrade.

In addition to reassuring the public about the safety of their money, Mr. Tlelima emphasized that the new digital system includes various improved features aimed at enhancing user experience. He advised customers not to panic if they notice changes on the Ecocash platform, noting that these modifications are part of the ongoing effort to improve security and reliability.

ETL encouraged all clients to stay vigilant and report any irregularities or difficulties they may encounter as the company continues to fine-tune the upgraded system. Customer feedback, he noted, is essential for identifying potential issues and ensuring a smooth user experience for everyone.

As Econet Telecom Lesotho transitions fully into a digital environment, the company remains committed to maintaining the trust of its customers by enhancing transparency, security, and service quality.
