Likuena Returns Home After AFCON Fixtures

The Lesotho Senior National Team, affectionately known as Likuena, made their way back to the country on Wednesday following their participation in the opening fixtures of the 2025 TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team faced tough competition against the Central African Republic and Morocco, marking a significant step in their quest for continental success.

In an interview with the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) Information and Communications Manager, Mr. Mikia Kalati, it was revealed that the team returned to Southern Africa from Morocco via Egypt early Wednesday morning. While local-based players and officials traveled back to Maseru by bus, the international players, who are currently plying their trade abroad, flew back to their respective clubs.

Among the first to depart were the Premier Soccer League (PSL) duo of Motebang Sera and Thabo Makhele, who headed back to Royal AM and Chippa United, respectively, to prepare for the new South African Betway League season. Additionally, Neo Mokhachane, a key player for Jwaneng Galaxy, is set to face Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League this weekend, making his swift return to club duties crucial.

Meanwhile, Likuena’s head coach, Leslie Nots’i, has embarked on a journey to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to attend the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Coaches Symposium scheduled for Thursday and Friday. This symposium is a vital platform for coaches to exchange ideas, strategies, and experiences, enhancing their capabilities and that of their teams.

As Likuena returns home, the focus now shifts to the future. The experience gained during these fixtures will be invaluable as the team prepares for upcoming challenges. The players’ commitment and dedication will be crucial as they continue their pursuit of excellence on the African football stage. The support from fans and stakeholders will undoubtedly play a vital role in motivating the team as they aim for greater heights in future competitions.
