LDF Engages in Operation Intended to End Killings: “Operation Hard Fist” Launched

The Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) has announced a proactive initiative aimed at curbing violent crime in the nation, particularly the rising incidents of murder. Dubbed “Operation Hard Fist,” this operation seeks to apprehend illegal firearms that have been implicated in various criminal activities.

In a press statement issued on September 6th, signed by Major Kelebone Mothibi, the LDF outlined the objectives of the operation, which has been launched in response to a disturbing increase in gun-related violence. The statement underscored the urgency of the situation, particularly following recent tragic events in the Berea district, where two villagers lost their lives to shootings.

The operation commenced in the Khokhoba area, a region that has experienced heightened insecurity due to the prevalence of illegal firearms. Major Mothibi emphasized the LDF’s commitment to restoring peace and safety in communities by taking decisive action against the possession and use of unlicensed weapons.

The statement further elaborated that “Operation Hard Fist” is part of a broader strategy to combat crime and ensure the safety of all citizens. The LDF is working in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to strengthen community security measures and promote public awareness regarding the dangers of illegal firearms.

As the operation unfolds, the LDF is encouraging the general public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activities or information related to illegal firearms. This collaborative effort is essential in creating a safer environment for all Basotho and restoring trust in the nation’s security forces.

The LDF’s decisive action reflects a growing recognition of the need for comprehensive measures to combat violence and enhance public safety. As “Operation Hard Fist” continues, the hope is that it will lead to a significant reduction in crime and a more secure future for the people of Lesotho.
