9 Lesotho Nationals Arrested in South Africa for Immigration Violations and Illicit Mining
At least nine suspects appeared in court in Mogwase, Potchefstroom earlier this week, charged with contravening the Immigration Act of 2002 and engaging in illicit mining activities.
According to a press statement from the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspects were arrested in Tlhatlaganyane village in Mogwase. The group includes six nationals from Lesotho, two from Zimbabwe, and one South African.
During the arrests, police confiscated a tipper truck, generators, hammers, jackhammers, water pumps, and various other equipment.
North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed both the arrests and the confiscation of the illegal mining equipment.
