PM TO ATTEND US-AFRICA LEADERS SUMMIT

The Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane is expected to participate in the US-Africa Summit to be held in Washington DC, United States of America.

In an interview with the Agency, the Press Attaché to the Prime Minister, Mr. Thapelo Mabote said the Prime Minister is expected to leave the country on Sunday as the summit is scheduled for Tuesday, 13th to 15th.

He said the summit which will be hosted by the US President, Mr. Joseph Biden is expected to bring together African Heads of state and government as well as leaders of the private sector, diaspora and civil society to discuss the US-Africa relations and cooperation on shared global priorities.

Mr. Mabote added that the summit will among others issues, deliberate on peace, security and good governance, food security, economic engagement, global health security and youth leadership.

He noted that this is the second US-Africa leaders’ summit, saying the first took place in 2014 and that this summit is expected to demonstrate the US commitment to Africa.

The Ideal participants of the summit will be Africans and people of African descent living outside of Africa and between the ages of 21–35. They should also be actively engaged in issues related to higher education, creative industries, or environmental equity.
