NUL Celebrates Life of the Late Assoc. Professor Motlatsi Pius Ramollo

Associate Professor Motlatsi Pius Ramollo, passed away on Wednesday 31st July, 2019 at Rose Park Hospital in Bloemfontein. A public memorial service was held for him on the 13th August, 2019 at National University of Lesotho, Roma campus in the Netherlands Hall. Friends and family of Professor Ramollo as well as University Management and staff gathered to pay respects to the legend of Mathematics and Physics.
When honouring the Professor, NUL Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Manthoto Lephoto indicated that losing Assoc. Prof. Ramollo is a great loss to the students and staff, especially from the Faculty of Science and Technology, a great loss to NUL Management and the Basotho nation. “Let’s all be comforted, Assoc. Prof. Ramollo has served; we saw his reliability when executing his duties as a Dean and he left a legacy”, Prof Lephoto consoled.
The funeral service in honour of Assoc. Prof. Ramollo will be held on Saturday 17th August, 2019 at Machabeng Grounds at NUL, starting at 09:00hrs.
Assoc. Prof. Motlatsi Pius Ramollo was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) in November 2016 to July, 2019.
Previously he has also served four (4) terms as the Head of Department of Mathematics & Computer Science. He was a member of the NUL 12th Council. He was also the Head of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Information Technology (MSIT). He has served on several NUL committees; Students Welfare Committee, Board of Development, Localization and Training Board, Board of Development and he is currently serving in the Tenders Board. He is a member of Higher Education Quality Assurance Committee (HEQAC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE www.che.ac.ls). He has served in the National Curriculum Development Committee (NCDC -Mathematics).
Assoc. Prof. Ramollo has a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). His education started from his home area Thabana-Morena where he attended Lekoatsa Primary School and Sebaki Primary School. He furthered his studies at St. Thomas High School. In 1987 he graduated from NUL with a B.Sc. (Mathematics & Physics).
His research area was in propagation of nonlinear (e.g. Water Waves, Solitary Waves, Solitons) and Mathematical Modelling. As a member of the department of Mathematics and Computer Science (MACS), Assoc. Prof. Ramollo has taught Mathematics courses at all level of the programmes that MACS offers; services courses, from first year to final year of the B.Sc. and postgraduate.
