Launch of NUL-Metropolitan Research Chair in Pension Law Studies
Metropolitan Lesotho in collaboration with the National University of Lesotho (through the Faculty of Law) will launch the Metropolitan Professorial Research Chair in Pension Law Studies. The launch will be hosted at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Roma campus on the 8th April, 2021 at 1400hrs, at ISAS Auditorium Hall.
The Metropolitan Research Chair was established in November 2020 as a partnership between NUL and Metropolitan Lesotho with the aim to promote scholarship that is relevant to the pension and insurance industry in Lesotho; offer professional development programmes and qualifications for the pension funds industry; as well as organize annual lectures or seminars to debate issues affecting the pension and insurance industry.
By sponsoring a University Professorial Research Chair through funding gives NUL an opportunity to improve scholarship in a particular area of interest (through academic programmes, training workshops and seminars) and increase the University’s research output for the benefit of the country, the region and the world as a whole.
The Faculty of Law has already developed an executive programme titled Certificate in Pensions Law Studies. The programme is currently with the Council on Higher Education (CHE) for accreditation and once approved, the programme is going to be offered. The University is hoping and promising the nation more programmes pertaining Pensions Law.
This physical launch of the Metropolitan Professorial Research Chair in Pensions Law Studies will be followed by a series of RoundTable discussions / dialogues called “In Conversation With the Pension Funds Industry.” The theme of the inaugural event is: The Pension Funds Act 5 of 2019: A Paradigm Shift in Lesotho? The soft launch of the inaugural discussions will be hosted virtually on the 23rd April, 2021 and a link to discussion will be shared in due course.
