Head of the European Union Delegation to Lesotho visits NUL

Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Lesotho, Ambassador Paola Amadei visited NUL on Monday, 23 May, 2022.

The main purpose for the visit was for the EU and the NUL management to strengthen the relationship between the EU and the NUL and to re-strategize on how the existing Erasmus programme may be promoted whilst also deliberating on the establishment of a National Focal point for the programme.

Secondly, the EU had set to visit NUL for a public Lecture that was facilitated by the faculty of Social Sciences.

Background of the Erasmus Programme

As of May 11, 2022, the Erasmus Programme marked its 35th Year of existence and the same amount of years being of benefit to third world countries. NUL took part in two of the four components of the Erasmus+Programme namely:

  • The Eramsum Mundus Programme’ in 2012-2017
  • The current Staff and student Mobility Scheme Programme in 2017-present

Erasmus Mundus programme:

NUL participation in the Eramsus Programme dates back to 2012 when NUL (through the Faculty of Education), got into partnership with 18 other Higher Education institutions (HEIs) from Africa, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) and Europe Countries, and were awarded Erasmus Mundus STETTIN; [Science and Technology Education Teachers’ training International Network] Programme

Erasmus Mundus STETTIN primarily involved Mobility of African and Caribbean students and staff to study or experience Science and Technology Education in any of the Five Participating European countries.

Through the programme, four master’s students and one PhD student graduated in Science Education Department (NUL), in the period 2012-2017, through NUL in partnership with Universities in France, Belgium and Greece.

Student and Staff Mobility Scheme Programme

  • In April 2017 – Erasmus + Programme MoU was assigned between NUL and Daugavpils University, Latvia;
  • In December 2017 – two staff members from Daugavpils University (DU) visited NUL;
  • January-February 2018 – two of the Faculty of Education staff visited Daugavpils University.
  • March 2019 – three staff members from Latvia visited NUL (Biological Science and Nature Conservation Background):
  • July 2019 – two members of staff from NUL (faculty of Education) visited DU;
  • Feb-June 2019 – Eramsus +Student mobility component initiated and three Master of Science in Education (MSc.Ed), in the Faculty of Education, visited Daugavpils University for a semester, in Feb-June 2019.
  • Arrangement is being made for six staff members from NUL to visit DU.
