DSA holds End-of-Year Sports & Culture Award Ceremony
The Sports Office in the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) in collaboration with All Sport Committee hosted the inaugural National University of Lesotho (NUL) Sports & Culture end-of-year appreciation awards ceremony. The event took place on Thursday,16th June, 2022 at ISAS Auditorium.
In fulfilling its mandate of providing recreational services and facilities to students, NUL had a limited but successful recovery phase post the Covid-19 pandemic. The Department of Student Affairs ensured all sporting codes and culture groups were spring back and participate in the National Leagues and friendly matches, national wide.
Due to funding constraints, the award ceremony was limited in numbers and thus allowed only 2 representatives from each Sporting and Culture group to receive honours on behalf of their respective teams and groups. The awards categories include the Best Performer of the Year, Best Newcomer and the Most Improved Performer.
The highlight of the event was the announcement that three NUL students have been selected to represent Lesotho in Chess sport in Chennai, India at the 44th Chess Olympiad from the 27th July to the 10Th August. The students are: Sechaba Khalema, Maboloko Leboela and Malehloa Likhomo.
Another special recognition was given to the captains of the Sports and Culture groups for their commitment and corporation. It was noted that the NUL Sports & Culture groups are now affiliated with their respective National Federations unlike in the past when they only competed in the games/contests.
NUL Students were lauded for their dedication and hard work as they dominated and led the score-board at the recent Lesotho Universities and Colleges Sport Association (LUCSA) Games 2022 that took place in April and May 2022. All NUL teams won medals.
Plans are to make the award ceremony an annual event that recognises and honours achievements of the Sport and Culture Groups.
