Abu Dhabi updates COVID-19 rules for events, weddings

Abu Dhabi has eased COVID-19 restrictions placed on operating capacity limits for all indoor and outdoor public events and weddings in the emirate, according to the Emergency Crisis and Disaster Committee.

Events held indoors can now operate up to 80 percent capacity, while gatherings at wedding halls are capped at 60 percent limit. However, attendees to indoor events must show a green pass and a negative PCR test result released within 96 hours, as well as undertake an EDE scan at public entry points and wear a mask.

For weddings, the number of guests can go up to 100 for indoor halls, 300 for open-air wedding venues and 60 for weddings hosted at home.

Several countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Japan, have recently announced new flight bans following the discovery of a new COVID-19 variant.

On Friday, the UAE moved to suspend flights from seven African countries, including Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Eswatini.

The UAE recorded 68 new coronavirus cases last Saturday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 741,858.
