AHF Lesotho to Commemorate International Day of the Girl with Empowering Event

On October 19, 2024, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Lesotho will commemorate the International Day of the Girl with a significant event at Katlehong in Maseru, aimed at empowering young girls and boys across the country. This initiative underscores AHF’s commitment to fostering the well-being and rights of young people in Lesotho.

In a press statement, AHF announced that the celebration will feature a session on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), specifically designed for 100 boys and girls aged 15 to 24. The goal of this session is to equip young individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their sexuality and overall health.

The statement highlights that the event will also focus on amplifying the voices and visions of girls and young women, advocating for the importance of CSE and supportive policies. CSE is recognized as a vital approach that provides essential information about sexual health, empowering youth to understand and navigate their sexual rights and responsibilities.

AHF emphasizes that CSE is crucial for helping young people make safe and informed choices regarding their sexual behavior. This includes education on the use of condoms and other methods to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, which are critical components of sexual health education.

Through this initiative, AHF Lesotho aims not only to educate but also to foster a supportive environment where young people can discuss their concerns, aspirations, and challenges. By empowering the youth with accurate information and resources, AHF hopes to contribute to the overall health and well-being of future generations.

The International Day of the Girl serves as a reminder of the challenges girls and young women face globally and the importance of advocating for their rights. With events like this, AHF Lesotho is making a substantial contribution to ensuring that the voices of young people are heard and that they have the tools necessary to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
