PS Pokello Mahlomola Clarifies Speculations on LTDC CEO Molupe Pheko’s Alleged Suspension

The Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Mr. Pokello Mahlomola, has addressed recent speculations regarding the suspension of Mr. Molupe Pheko, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC). The speculations had been circulating through several media outlets, causing concern among industry stakeholders.
In an interview with the Agency on Tuesday, Mr. Mahlomola clarified that Mr. Pheko is currently on his 19-day annual leave, a period during which he is expected to return to his duties once the leave days are concluded. Mr. Mahlomola’s statement was aimed at dispelling the rumors of a formal suspension, emphasizing that Mr. Pheko’s leave is entirely in accordance with standard procedures.
However, while Mr. Pheko is on leave, the Board of the LTDC has decided to proceed with investigations into the CEO, based on allegations surrounding his management of the corporation. These allegations include the misuse of LTDC funds and vehicles, issues related to recruitment procedures, and concerns regarding the costs associated with his travel tours. Mr. Mahlomola confirmed that the investigations are ongoing, with the Board taking necessary steps to address the situation.
The revelations have sparked discussions on the governance and accountability of state corporations, with many waiting to see the outcome of the investigations. The Ministry of Tourism, Sports, and Culture continues to monitor the situation, with an emphasis on ensuring transparency and proper conduct within public institutions.
Mr. Mahlomola’s comments seek to reassure the public that due process will be followed and that the LTDC will remain focused on its mission to promote Lesotho’s tourism sector, despite the ongoing scrutiny.
